Debate whether or not the type ii toad, did not make harmonic hums, were an intermediate teenage stage and this was not the case. Type i and ii are both grown adults. Looked at otolith which is an inner ear bone. These are made mostly of calcium carbonate and used to age fishes. This bone helps the fish with balance. Every year they add another circle of calcium carbonate. Morphological and physiological differences between type i and type ii males. On average adult type i males are 2x longer and 8x heavier than adult type ii males: type i males need to be big and tough in order to protect the young, there is a trade off. Both males can father both types of food. Typically type ii fertilizes a minority however type ii can travel around and is not constrained to one nest: not sure if type ii is more likely to father type ii babies.
