Unleashed incredible radiation: fewer deaths than hiroshima and nagasaki, a few dozen people died on site, near by communities didn"t have instant deaths. Radiation persists in the environment and causes long term health problems: radiation tossed into the sky up to 10km in the air, area that was effected increased because of wind and air movement. Half life the amount of time it takes for half of the amount of that element to decay into a stable isotope of something else. Hard to tell how many deaths are a direct impact of chernobyl. Reactor was covered up: structure of metal and concrete above the reactor, they have burned skin from the radiation, a few thousand had developed cancer, included fire fighters, police officers etc, the liquidators who built the structures. The structure unfortunately leaks radiation because it wasn"t built perfectly.
