In a recent canadian poll, it was found that about 50% of people who were polled indicated that they were some what concerned that there might be a risk of cancer from cell phone use. First of all, it is important to make the distinction between the radiation produced by cell phones and the ionizing radiation. R from cell phones is not produced by nuclear reactions, it is simply low-energy light waves that we categorize as microwaves. Microwaves are used for cell pho(cid:374)e (cid:272)o(cid:373)(cid:373)u(cid:374)i(cid:272)atio(cid:374) (cid:271)e(cid:272)ause they (cid:272)a(cid:374) easily pe(cid:374)etrate the earth"s at(cid:373)osphere. Many lay people fear cell phone radiation simply because they are not aware of the difference between microwaves, gamma rays, and x-rays, they mistakenly associate all types of radiation with cancer.
