NATS 1870 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: James Clerk Maxwell, Photon, Ewald Hering
Document Summary
Thomas young put tricolor theory together; reasoned that we have three different kinds of receptors in our eye ( resonators ) 3 types of cones: long wavelength: sensitive to longer wavelengths (l-cone, middle cones are sensitive to green light, short wavelength. James clerk maxwell: created the spinning disc to prove that we can see all colors through the 3 cones in our eyes (produces an additive optical mixture in the eye) Deduced that any color we see is a fraction of red, green & blue mixed together. Light then gets absorbed by cones and rods (at the back of the eye) Each type of cone contains molecules that are made to absorb light. Process of atom absorbing light: the electrons take the energy from the light and convert it to their own energy then orbit the atom (all happens in the eye and starts the process)
