Genes/inheritance: diseased genes can be inherited (breast, pancreatic) Age: longer life expectancy = more mutations= more cancer types. Environment: warm = sun exposure = skin cancer. Viruses: can cause cancer (herpes 8, burkitt"s lymphoma, hep c, hep b) In ammation: asbestos & viruses = in ammation = cancer. Hep c virus: causes in ammation = main reason it leads to cancer. Virus genes: also cause cancer with their genes (proliferate = cancer) Genome size: ~8,000 bp (base pairs), which is the avg. length of one of our genes. Species speci c: only for humans (but there are papilloma viruses for other species too) Site speci c: infects epithelial cells (dry skin, mucosal region, ano-genital) Type 6 & 11: low risk = cervical abnormalities & genital warts = no cancer. Type 16 & 18: high risk = cervical abnormalities = may lead to cervical, anal, Bernardino ramazzi: 1713 - correlation with nuns & cervical cancer = sex life.
