Document Summary

Instrumental (utilitarian ) value: something is useful to us. Present trends will lead to economic growth, technological advances, less crowding, less pollution and increasing health. Conquer nature; promote growth in consumption and production. Not at the expense of short term economic growth. Large and centralized is better: two extreme views: Present trends will lead to more pollution, instability, and a wider rich v/s poor gap. Work with nature to sustain rather than depute resources. Pollution leads to long and short term damage, reducing long term productivity. Manage resources and avoid pollution to begin with. Technology: there exists a wide spectrum of views and philosophies. You may disagree with some of the ideas at either extreme. But each person"s worldview should at least be founded upon knowledge of the fundamental issues: above all, it is important to always keep a flexible outlook.
