Technology in the renaissance and early modern period: science and technology in the renaissance. Renaissance means rebirth ; interest in newly recovered classical texts humanists (reexamination of lost text to be accepted and studied by scholars) Theme on relationship between science and technology 1) changes in attitude toward technology and natural philosophy 2) change in the connection between these two disciplines. Change 1- change in status: up until this time, natural philosophy was learning was for the sake of knowing, a major thing which separated it from other ideas. By the time of renaissance, a move away from knowledge or knowledge sake, and natural philosophy was seen as a tool for gaining status etc a trend towards more practical uses of knowledge. Change 2- mathematics has a far more prominent place in. Change 3-trend towards experimentation (natural philosophy lacked experimentation with nature b/c of aristotle said not to manipulate nature)
