Better ways of feeding population, manufacturing and producing goods. Development of new technologies and methods of production created to help sustain growing population. Major changes include a shift to machine production; machines operated by water and steam power; factory system of production; new methods of communication and transportation, and new forms of managing labor. Going to start to see growth of factories. Rapid technological change with creation of textile (cotton) mills, mass- produced iron, coal, steam engine, railroads. Steam power becomes a very new and important energy source at this time. New technologies being used in areas of communications/transport. Establishment and use of electric telegraph: first electronic method of sending messages across long distances. [morris code] did so using a transmitter and a receiver.
