Experts are under thread of the general public- more/ less, experts/publics. Should be a cooperation between experts and ordinary people. We live in the age of specialism, highly political with a demand to make decisions and consensus operations consensus is not the same as certainty - it does not mean we"ve reached certainty. Science, if it can deliver truth, cannot deliver at the speed of politics (pg. Publics are finding uncertainty as a problem, experts see uncertainty as continuing their research to reach certainty( the wrong standard or the wrong idea?) Thesis: collins & evans we ought to prefer the judgments of those who know what they are talking about. (pg. Expertise is a social process (language example) The refusal to recognize expertise is not the same as not having expertise. Language is not seen as an expertise if everyone can speak it.
