Local astronomy, part 1: mapping the night sky. We will describe both qualitatively and quantitatively the changing appearance of the night (and day) sky over various time scales (daily and yearly). The celestial sphere will be introduced as an earth-centred sky- coordinates system for labelling all objects in the sky.
