Sc nats emerging infectious diseases sept 15, 2015. Microbes have caused the most devastaing epidemics in recent human history. Microbes used to treat sewage and decompose waste. Microbes used to make food e. g. cheese, bread. Turning inorganic molecules (nitrogen, co2) into organic compounds. The natural microbial lora provides protecion against more virulent microbes. It is not the strongest of species that survives, or the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change. However, large majority do not cause aggressive diseases which can kill their host quickly. Tuberculosis can last up to 30 years and has infected over 1. 7 billion. Ebola virus is an acute disease which has a death rate of 90% ater being infected. The natural evoluion of a microbe operates on its spreading capacity. Microbial natural selecion, evoluion favours less or non-virulent microbes. A well-adapted microbe can live in its host without causing signiicant damage.
