Fallacies of ambiguity violate the acceptability criterion of a good argument. Linguistic fallacies; have to do with language and meaning. Because natural languages are inherently ambiguous, one could easily commit fallacies of ambiguity. Denotation: fact pointing; meaning is objectively given/ in the object external + Connotation: meanings have a subjective meaning to it. Euphemism: to replace a derogatory/offensive term with an inoffensive term. Syntax: how we string words together by following a set of rules internal to the given language. Arrangement of words grammatically so it makes sense. Semantics: context brings meanings to words/ has to do with the meanings that emerges from sentences and those meanings are contextually given. Fallacy of equivocation: comes from latin equi (equal) and vox / vac (voice) When a word or phrase is used two different ways in the same argument. Gambling should be legalized because it is something we can"t avoid.
