Document Summary

Only the first category of fallacies will be on the test. Fallacy of appeal to ignorance; when the emotion has no relevance to the issue, it can be used in the premises. Red herring; it occurs when someone tries to bring in an argument that has nothing to do with the original argument. The premises is irrelevant therefore you cannot look at the argument as a valid argument. It is an argument that occurs when the person arguing deliberately weakens the position of the opponent and therefore implied that it should be rejected. These are arguments with premises that are relevant to the conclusion, but are unacceptable. Often they do not provide adequate support for the conclusion. May be related to the topic but irrelevant. An argument begs the question when the conclusion is assumed in the premises. This is another way of saying that the argument is circular.
