MODR 1760 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Propositional Calculus, Truth Table, Truth Function
Document Summary
Concerned with the relationships among entire statements, structures of syllogisms. Concerned with understanding the truth function of a given statement: recall that a statem something is or is not the case. Compound statements: a statement composed of one or more simple statements that rel connective. There are other logical connectives, and thus other compound statements, but in this chap with the simplest ones. A conjunction is that which joins 2 distinct statements. The truth value of a conjunction depends on the truth value of its component parts. That is a conjunction is true if an only if its conjuncts are true. Truth table = the way we map out the conditions that would make a proposition true or fa. Note that with conjunctions there is only one way for the statement to be true. F atement/claim asserts that at relate because of a logical chapter we are only concerned r false.
