MODR 1760 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Milgram Experiment

55 views1 pages

Document Summary

Milgram experiment: i would not press the switch because no amount of research is worth the pain that i would think that the learners were experiencing. If this research was important enough, the doctor could conduct it on his own and inflict pain in the respondents himself. They were told that it was part of the experiment but there was no one who forced them to continue. They were able to leave whenever they wanted but just because an authority figure was telling them to continue, they did. They were the ones who were choosing to click the buttons, knowing that what they were doing was causing extreme pain to the person on the other side. I think the participants were able to administer the shocks because the individual who was wearing the white coat is believed to be a doctor or scientist and these individuals possess knowledge which makes them an authority figure.
