De nition: the study of right reason or valid inferences and the attending fallacies (formal and informal) - we study what"s right about reasoning and what"s wrong about it. Working de nition: it"s a way to think that we can come to correct conclusions by understanding implications and the mistakes people often make in their thinking. There are right ways to reason and wrong ways. Inference = drawing a conclusion (therefore, because of that, so ) One statement implies another statement (can be valid or not) We want to come to correct conclusions about reality. We want our beliefs to track with the truth. Logic doesn"t apply to reality is in fact a logical claim to reality. Logic is an inescapable feature of our lives.
