John cabot: discovers the land of cipango which was full of spices and gold. He also discovered large deposits of cod fishery. He was the greatest con man in history and he said he will conquer cipango for. Britain so he asked resources to carry on the task. Fur trade in new france and northwest and cod was in newfoundland. Mercantilism: the colonies are to serve the mother land and benefit the mother land only. Colonies were not allowed to export or manufacture any goods and valuable raw materials could only be sold to the british empire at low prices. End of mercantilism occurred when confederation took place. ( first industrial revolution) John molson: business elite who started as a clerk in the trading company. Later he started of a brewery with a friend and it turned out to be really bad. He then then purchased a book to learn how to make beer, still he was bad.
