Three di erent events occurring during articulatory phonetics: articulation, transmission, perception. Issues that pertain to the study of articulatory phonetics include the following: Acoustic phonetics: the study of the sound wave properties of speech sounds. Auditory phonetics: the study of how the speech sounds are perceived. Sounds are made by modifying or shaping a moving body of air within the vocal tract. Larynx (informally known as the voice box ): includes the vocal cords and the glottis (space between the vocal cords) Tongue (tip or apex, blade or lamina, body or dorsum and root) F sounds are created with voiceless labiodental fricative. V sounds are created with voiced labiodental fricative (fricative: denoting a type of consonant made by the friction of breath in a narrow opening, producing a turbulent air flow)
