Car driving study: novice drivers have less horizontal scanning, spend more time looking directly in front, looked at the rear view mirror less often, and make pursuit eye movements whereas experts make eye xations. Listening to someone talk to you while you"re driving doesn"t increase the incidence of accidents because when they see a di cult tra c situation they stop talking, while the person on the phone doesn"t know. Visual selective attention: skilled & unskilled people don"t do the same thing with their eyes, skilled performers are a lot more e cient and know what to look for in the environment. Eye movement analysis can be used to know where the subject is looking auditory selective attention: we can"t process two stimuli at the same time. November 14th attention summary: unskilled people are not good at doing two things at the same time.
