Document Summary
Di erent aspects a ect arteriolar radius: anything changing arteriole radius will a ect tpr, or total peripheral resistance. If the arterioles are vasoconstricted, its going to make a high resistance pathway upstream which limits the amount of blood that can exit the arteries. This means that we are restricting ow to the capillaries, having consequences on gas, nutrient, and uid exchange in the capillaries. If our arterioles are vasodilated, because you are doing a whole body exercise and you have a lot of metabolites in all of your muscles stimulating vasodilation, then we know that diameter will increase. The red blood cells ow with plasma in-between them. The mitochondria of the skeletal myocytes are accumulated right beside the capillary, meaning that the oxygen coming from the red blood cell over to the mitochondria has very little distance for it to go. 5l/min coming out of the heart, and 5l/min going into the capillaries and back to the heart.
