KINE 1020 Lecture Notes - Lecture 31: Maximum Force, Motor Skill, Wicket-Keeper
Document Summary
Muscular strength the ability to exert maximum force against a resistance. Muscular speed the ability to perform voluntary muscle contraction(s) or motor skill, running, as rapidly as possible. Muscular endurance the ability to sustain voluntary muscle contractions, or performance, such as running, and resist fatigue. Muscular power the rate of performing work; the ability to perform voluntary muscle contractions over a range of movement time/speeds and intensities. Power development includes a time and strength component. Static (isometric - iso) the force exerted against an external resistance without any change in muscle length. Dynamic (visible joint movement) the force generated while shortening (concentric - con) or lengthening (eccentric - ecc) Resistance can be constant (isoinertial) or variable (isokinetic) while the force varies through the range of motion (rom) Individuality: heredity plays a major role in determining the body"s response to a single bout of exercise, as well as chronic adaptations to ex, high responders vs. low responders.
