Document Summary

Dr. collins: in order to have social change we need to reconceptualize power relations. We need new understanding of race, social class, gender relations. Since we put labels onto eachother, we clouded our understanding of eachother with these narrow boxes. satirical humour: using sarcasm and laughter to address/criticize issues. Easy to follow long standing beliefs and get triggered by emotions. Easy to blame society but we are society. Antonio gramsci: italian philosopher who died in prison. Hegemony: power relations, power as an ideological idea that make those without power believe that they share the same interest as those with power. Ex: in titanic lower class agreed to being locked so upper class can escape. Sat scores: people with money have more resources so they can get higher score ableing them to go to uni. Power is not total, there will always be pockets in which people can rebel.
