Markers and milestones that we put in age: significance of 19th birthday (excitement, turning 40 (scared to turn 40, arbitrary; the way we conceptualize age, it is random. It is about how we relate to one another. Old age** understood in relation to childhood, youth, middle age, etc. and vice versa. We construct, negotiate and interpret ageing in our interactions: different meanings depending upon our sense of self in time as well as our sense of others.
