Philip roth and woody allen impacted the idea of what the jewish schlemiel is. Allen stereotypes jewish man as sexually self-doubting and obsessed with the gentile woman hyper sexual man. Schlemiel as the american anti-hero - not the strong dominant person (new jew). Still dominant in film but not the only image - seth rogan, adam sandler, ben stiller, etc.
