Law & society lecture 1 (sept 17 th 2015) In the 1970s there was a critique of law. There was a critique that"s complicit with capitalism. Law as an institution is a regulation of society. There"s a gap between what law says it could do and what it actually does (aspiration vs. what it does) In the 1990s was a rich period for the development of law and society. Theoretical critiques of law including critical race theory, queer theory, feminist and postcolonial theory. In the 2000s we have the narrative term. How did tv programs represent law etc (csi, law and order, 48 hours, criminal minds) There are four features of early law and society scholarship. The scholarship tended to focus on national, political, law school based and had a huge hook on legal history. A consolidated act is an act that has been changed to an existing section. Depending on your perspective you"ll have different answers to this question.
