Achaians favour respecting the priest and taking his shining ransom (line 22), Agamemnon, king of the mykenai, the chief leader of the achaians, & thus the greatest of all the achaians (91), tells chryses that he will not give chryseis back, threatens him. Apollo hears his prayer and, angered, lets go his arrows on the achaians, first their mules & hounds but then the men themselves.
