HREQ 1800 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Neurosis, Psychological Abuse, Joe Fresh
Document Summary
The argument this week is the same: corporations are exploitative. Children and youth work and how they are exploited. The reading is rather limited to north america. First part of chapter is present day while second part looks historically. Sites or sectors children are accommodated for tend to be fast food and agriculture. There is no remedy in the problem given in the reading. Canadian history in relation to labour: think of 2nd ww, great depression, birth of the nation of canada in 1867 (confederation). When speaking of exploitation we are looking at young people that are understood and defined as second-class less important citizens. We do not fully recognize them as human beings and disrespect them so their work is also devalued. North america is a new world that came into existence rather recently. Britain as the mother and colonies were having disturbing relationships. Colonies as children were annoyed with their mother of britain.
