HLST 2030 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Consumerism, Information Management, Organizational Culture
Document Summary
Providers and funders are subject to balanced budget requirements difficult to obtain in light of providing better service to aging & increasingly complex populations. (non-profit organizations): funders and donors looking for increased value for dollar. Increased scrutiny by boards and of boards pushing performance improvement initiatives to greater heights. Increasingly interested in ensuring that they are acting in the best interests of their stakeholders (including the staff/professions they represent) Charities are under the microscope for cost per dollar raised. Many nfp"s (not-for profit) have had their allocations frozen for many years. Each year approximates a 2% cut in funding. Lhin funding not really tied to population profiles but to historical funding levels; and pre-existing inequities are carried forward in perpetuity. Community increase (ex inflation in rural areas) affects funding in efforts to balance the population growth. Obviously no agency wants to see a reduction in its own field. Challenges in the healthcare environment: increased consumer expectations.
