If focuses on the prevenion of disability resuling from biological and environmental consiions. Disease is treated as a pathology and we focus on individual deicits when we think of disabled people. The inclusion of people with disability is a private responsibility. Biomedical and funcional models approach disability with professional knowledge and experise. Look at the individual to determine what is wrong and how disabled the person is. By treaing the individual you decrease the prevalence of illness in the overall populaion. Can use treatment opions like tradiional biomedicine or segregaion where only the basic needs are met. This protects the medical professional as they are gatekeepers to treatment opions. The funcion approach aims to make the person able to become socially apt again. Surviving and living skills may be taught and people are treated with training, physio, occupaional therapy, etc. The success of this program is determined by the degree to which a normal life can be lived.
