Lecture: gun murder and gun control in canada and the us. Samuel de champlain (governor of new france) Huron allied with france at quebec. The two groups fought in the forest; champlain shot 2 iroquois with pistols. Hudson"s bay company purchased over 400 guns. 1744 new france militia = 11,285 men; 7260 muskets. 1808 lower canada (quebec) militia = 54,072 men, 10,044 muskets. 1820 new brunswick militia = 10,000 men, 455 muskets. 1842 nova scotia militia in a deplorable state, and not generally armed . Tracking the number of guns to only friendly and useful. Required to swear loyalty to the british crown, otherwise their rights to have firearms were expelled. Common fear about public safety and public order. Gave british citizens the constitutional right to own a gun. For protection, service in the militia, and as a form of property. Nobody can be deprived of life or property which included guns.
