It was brought to light in this week"s lecture that although britain claimed to be the first country to abolish the slave trade this was not so, haiti did so in 1804. Europe to abolish the slave trade in 1807, this was the same date that the united states constitution abolish the slave trade from africa. Britain had a vital role in slavery as they were the largest slave trading country in the world. They lead a campaign that was important in the ending of slavery, but this only ended the slave trade in the british colonies not the british empire, some colonies are the islands, canada. The first country to abolish the slave trade was haiti, they did that after the revolution movement, they were able to establish the independence of haiti. They did so by overthrowing the french government control over the country of haiti in 1804.
