Homers heroes are from these classical towns and references all these regions in greece. These walls were so humungous that it was thought that the cyclops built them. In the odyssey they were a race of giants with huge strength. The greek encountered the ruins of the mycenaean past. He was moivated by looking at the text and by pausanias. Pausanias 2. 16. 6 he goes to the sight of mycenae. Reading pausanias wriings, schliemann catches on that there are graves to be found of mycenae. He believes that the graves he found were of agamemnon, casandra ect. Schliemann may have fabricated some of his inds and made up lies. Graves date from 1600-1460 bc (much earlier than schliemann had thought) and what homer had described. In the 13th century, cital walls had been built to extend around graves.
