He is a product of the revolution. Their third goal was to create a republic of virtue. They want to create something that is hostile to religion and semi religious at the same time. They replaced catholicism with a new state religion. Their new religion has martyrs, rituals, religious festivals. They released a new calendar with new names for the months (linked to the seasons) They wanted to make people forget the old gods completely.
