Could be and were liberals, socialist and conservatists. All people derive their identities from their nations. They worship the same religion, speak the same language. French armies displayed a solidarity of national feeling. French armies provoked nationalism because they were victorious. Once napoleon is defeated, nationalists were turned against outside rulers. Most of the liberties advocated by liberals tended to be a speci c kind of liberty that only bene ted the middle class. The utopian socialists believe that society would bene t if private property did not exist. The new and emerging society was bene ting two groups of people: the upper class and the working class (lower class) British socialism was founded by robert owens. Not all responses to the revolution were conservative. The era after napoleon is the era of intense urbanization. All ideologies came from the middle class.
