Going back to war: 10 september 1939, limited liability war, dunkirk evacuation, ogdensburg agreement, dieppe raid. By 1939 canada and other dominions had independence. Granting emergency powers to coordinate society towards fighting the war: king promises no conscription for overseas military service. Canadians fought the battle of the atlantic, in air foces, and in hong kong, Canadians would participated mainly in over seas fighting and contribute mainly in the home front in home production and training. February 1940: 20,000 canadian troops sent to britain. Perception of the war was that it was phony. Phony idea changed when launched a surprise attack on denmark. Phony war in a matter of months became (cid:498)real(cid:499) war. Germany capture most of the territory in europe. Up to this point canadian armed forced had not fought in a single battle. They would continue to see armed conflict. The royal canadian air force joined bomber command to destroy.
