Greece was also part of republic of venice 16th century was powerful sea-fairing nation: although the people of greece might have their own culture, religion, language, they"re divided as to who their masters were. Light touch of the ottoman empire started to change in the 16th century during their expansion plans. Siege of vienna turned back and their power base gradually crumbled, the rest of the world was looking at the ottoman empire to expand their own territory. 17th century expansion stops, rule over what territories they have becomes more possessive, harsher, allow less local gov. ; greece starts to fell suffering under the ottomans.
