June 18th, 2018: war, occupation and resistance/greece in the 1940s. Consequences of this decade still have lasting impacts on present-day greece. Tinos (pilgrimage that greeks take, grand orthodox church in greece: metaxas refuses to respond. 1/29/41: metaxas dies and none of the pre-dictatroship politicians was able to take charge. Invasions by nazis and italians made greece isolated. Nazis invasion through yugoslavia and germans launched a blitzkrieg war, very successful. Greek forces don"t hold out very well. Decided to not bomb historical/cultural sites (parthenon, etc. ) The army surrenders, april 20th, 1941: general tsolakoglou mutinies and surrenders. King george ii and the government abandon the city.
