Witches/stepmothers/ sleeping beauties: images of women in fairy tales. Originally written down in 1810, changed and edited by brothers grimm over a period of fourty-seven years. The character of snow white is not the driving force in the story. Evil women: power to act and use this power, at the end, she simply dies, stepmother, witch. Dictomoy in fairy tales: young beautiful protagonist who deserves the happy ever after, old ugly woman who acts in bad faith. Little to do with young protagonist: focused on the other femal figure, queen struggles with her authoritative magic, snow white not the driving force of this fairy tale, queen was driven to desperate acts by the mirror. The mirror symbolizes how women see themselves. The relation of witches to fairies/pagan world. The influence of european witch hunts and trials on fairy tales. Witches/stepmothers/sleeping beauties: women roles in a patriarchal society.
