Anticipatory adaptation: taken before the impacts are obvious (because they"re thought to be inevitable: eg: higher sea walls, houses on stilts, early-warning systems. Reactive adaptation: occurs after the initial impacts become evident: eg: buying an air conditioner, introducing crops that can survive under new conditions in response to crop failure. Some people will have to adapt more than others (people who are more at risk) = lessening the force or intensity of a process; a proactive response aimed at stopping or slowing down a particular change.
