Document Summary

What do you think is the most important cause of deforestation in asia: expanded farming to feed growing populations, logging, expansion of plantations and cash crops, climate change forest fires, etc. What is deforestation: when a forest permanently turns into another land use, logging is not deforestation. Anthropogenic forest: the idea that there is a lot of forest out there that was shaped by people and were not naturally grown, many forests are anthropogenic. Uplands and coasts, (image) the green is sort of the forest area (mostly on the upland area or the coast). A lot of palm trees planted by people. It used to be majority made up of forest but now it is only 20% forest. Particular types of trees start to grow called mangrove trees. A lot of fish species spond here, and spend their life cycles here. When there are really bad cyclones, people that live behind mangroves will not be effected very much.
