When europeans arrived and started to colonize places, they painted the savages/primitives showing the simpler way of life . Lots of islands still constructed as a paradise because it is otherd from the rest of the world. Some islands such as the caribbean is not constructed as a paradise however. Slaves brought to work on plantations in the caribbean (1600"s)
