Document Summary

Lived from the beginning to the middle of the 16th century. Lived entire life in service of the court. Entered university at age 12, graduated at age 16. Renaissance man - a man of many qualities. A man who can manage a sword in the defence of his king, be a listener more than a talker, is quick witted, athletic accomplishments, a warrior, lover, poet. Today we call that a renaissance man - wyatt gave rise to that. Did borrow many of his themes expression. Wrote a series of sonnets in a persona of a lover, who falls for a woman named. Stuff in the poems that did not happen to petrarch - cannot assume it"s him. She"s a married woman, her husband very much alive. Creative misery in this fiction of desire. Woman: concerned with appearances, being faithful, and the church (adultery being illegal) Laura: as virtuous as she is beautiful, but she is veiled all the time.
