Document Summary

Lecture 11: centennial nationalism: 150th anniversary of confederation, concerns of the course that were unique to canada mentioned in the earlier aspect of the course: the cold, nature, etc. These tropes are also replicated in the canada. 150 commercial in 2017: argument: that the centennial celebration and the nationalism around it out of which the institution of canadian literature was born. A scholarly field of study with classes and courses, collection of essays was born out of the centennial nationalism. Looking at the 150-year celebration we see a very muted celebration of it. Interesting/surprising of the video: you can"t change what happened in the past but we can look forward to the future . It is not a huge celebration because of all the wrong that was done to the indigenous peoples in the past: it happened recently. It was a muted thing: this could be a topic to discuss for an essay.
