Document Summary

Recap: the central text for the confederation ii was the indian act. The indian act is this fascinating and troubling document that the canadian government tried to compromise and come to terms with the indians within canada. There were a lot of paradoxes and contradictions within the text: scott is fascinating because he on one hand is celebrating himself as documenting himself of canadians indigenous populations. On one hand, he is writing these poems on people disappearing and on the other hand he is working on other projects such as the indian treaties and the residential schools. He shows us the huge stakes of the politics at the time: e pauline johnson, brilliant performance artist. In the beginning, you start from a third person perspective then move to the perspective from the settlers finding the cattle thief then you move to his own perspective and then lastly his daughter"s perspective.
