EDFE 2000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Pierre Bourdieu, Hidden Curriculum, Rela
Document Summary
Module 2, week 2: social difference, social class and. Social class and the hidden curriculum of work. It will be suggested that there is a " "hidden curriculum" in school work that has profound im- plication for the theory- and consequence- of everyday activity in education. The ownership relation that is definitive for social class is one"s rela- tion to physical capital. The second relationship which con- tributes to one"s social class is the relation one has to authority and con- trol at work and in society. The third criterion which contributes to a person"s social class is the relationship between that per- son and his or her own productive activity - the type of activity that con- stitutes his or her work. In the two working-class schools, work is following the steps of a procedure. The procedure is usually mechanical, involving rote behavior and very little decision making or choice: these notes are re to be studied.
