Nature of community based crime prevention programs depends on community. Community as a collective: neighbourhood watch, broken windows. Evaluation and effectiveness there was a significant reduction in crime, including petty crimes and homicide and violent crimes. Significant success within the new york city complex. Used in urban contexts in the usa, canada, uk, and parts of europe. Qualifications: actually little empirical evidence to support the aledged reported links between physical disoerder and crime. Or limited evidence to support the effectiveness of broken windows policing strategy to reduce crime. Par t of the difficulty with police and disorder. Disorder is ambiguous (who gets to define it, what does it look like?) disorder came to be defined through the lense of the introduction of broken window approaches and policies, disorder came to be define in fairly limited ways. Notions of disorder with regards to crime is very unclear.
