Federal and provincial/territorial rates rising (10% over past 10 years) Remand = 57% of all provincial and territorial. Female inmates cost are twice as much as men. Last 10 years, 40% increase in rates of federal imprisonment (502 to 680) Increase explained in large part by increasing numbers of incarcerated aboriginal women: 90% increase in last 10 years. Less likely to be married or in a common law.
