Gallery + museum is an elite place to visit art. Artist run center->gallery that artists put together themselves. There are many in toronto but different, ex; art gallery of ontario. Was a proliferation(rapid increase) of artist organization @the end of 19th cent. Artists came together for showing their work, purpose was to sell their work. Canadian artists created royal canadian academy to get your pic, you needed to create your work and be judged in order to be published in the exhibit. Purpose was to create a standard and educate the public. ^--canada started to govern itself there was the dominion(control) Canada was part of the british+french empire. Artists at the time weren"t pleased about it. There as an art exhibition in montreal. Prominent artists had british backgrounds and were from mtl. Tor +mtl was at the center of things, just like today. French cads came first, then the brits(@ end of 18th cent)
