Document Summary

Expression vectors plasmid that you can insert a gene encoding a protein of interest and make lots of it. Modified viral genomes in order for foreign gene inserted and expressed. Normally structural genes are at 3" end but they has been replaced by the foreign gene. So instead of producing the structural genes during cell infections, you will produce foreign gene is inserted there. The foreign proteins will be expressed from sg mrna: allows for expression of heterologous proteins. Virus can cause cells to get sick and if we are trying to make a lot of a protein you don"t want the cells to be sick. Self- replicating vectors are referred to as replicons because all they do is replicate they do not have any structural genes so no possibility of making a particle. These foreign genes will be expressed by the subgenomic mrna.
