Movement of organism is achieved by coordinated beating of cilia: metachronal beating each part of cilia is a different part of the wave. Putting them together to get synchronized beats for movement: power stroke: stiffened cilia propel water parallel to cell surface. Maximize sa of contact they have with the surrounding environment. Generate forward movement, direction of the animal will be in opposite direction because the net force is in the direction of the power stroke: recovery stroke: cilia bends towards body to reduce resistance.
